Kodak Summer Olympics Aerial Map of Atlanta
In 1996, I was commissioned by a Chicago ad agency to create an aerial map of the Atlanta metro area, highlighting a number of points of interest for visitors who had come for the Summer Olympics being held there.
Based upon map references, and photos of the various points of interest, I created this “forced perspective” curved surface view, and popped up the points of interest in exaggerated, whimsical style.
Some of the highlighted points of interest were: The World of Coca-Cola, the Roxy, Hard Rock Cafe, and the Fox Theater.
Since Kodak was the sponsor of this printed piece, I am guessing they promoted their products in some way by making this map and its key to the locations available to out of town guests. Maybe this increased the sales of Kodak film during the Summer Olympics.
Today, this would never happen… everybody uses digital cameras now!
