BIRKEY.COM - 1999 Retrospective
I was looking through the archives of the Way Back Machine, and discovered what my former website looked like almost 9 years ago today (on 12-OCT-99). I had forgotten about this BIRKEY.COM 2.0 version of the web site design. I remember spending many hours developing it. I thought it was pretty cool at the time.
I am pretty sure the concept was inspired by the LaSalle Partners website. Since I was doing a lot of architectural illustration at that time (including for LaSalle Partners), the metaphor of building websites like buildings was a natural one for me. I used my architectural illustration background to design and illustrate the images, and create the interface.
You can see I was still publicizing my membership in the AMC. I was also still hosting the site with Morelli Systems, and even had a banner ad on the site for them. I was also using a visitor counter… wish I knew what the number was back then.
When you clicked on Limerick of the Month, this is what it said:
There once was a boy who… kicked cheese!
By the way, this is what the Morelli website looked like on the same day!
