Randal Birkey was commissioned by Rich Nickel Design to illustrate the Wheaton College campus map for a redesign of their prospective student viewbook. Randal worked from architectural master plans, aerial photography and city maps to create an up-to-date 3D perspective view of the campus. By leaving all tree and major vegetation blank, the buildings and major features of the campus stand out visually. The addition of the biplane adds some whimsical fun to the illustration and gives it a sense of scale and placement.

The original illustration was completed on 20″ x 30″ illustration board using hand inked line work and color pencil shading and texturing.

It was also framed and displayed at the Billy Graham Center for campus visitors to enjoy.
