Best Pizza in Chicago

MSNBC recently did a story on America’s Best Cities for Pizza. No surprise to us that Chicago won, beating out New York and their famous thin-crust pizza. This inspired us at Headstand to come up with our own list of Best Pizza in Chicago! Listed below are our top 5, along with some honorable mentions (meaning individuals liked them, but they did not get any multiple votes). Let us know what you think and if we missed any you think should be on this list.

1. Lou Malnati’sChicago is known for its deep dish pizza. So naturally the top two spots on this list are known for their take on this Chicago classic. We love Lou’s because of their unique buttery crust, fresh tasting tomato sauce and great toppings. When you visit, don’t forget to try their Bruschetta and the amazing Chocolate Chip Pizza. |

2. Giordano’sProbably the best known pizza in the city, and for good reason. The deep dish is cheesy and delicious. We’re a fan of their thinner crust as well. You’ll leave Giordano’s happy and very full. If you are from out of town, you can even order their pizzas frozen online! |

3. Ciao Napoli PizzeriaPart of what makes Ciao Napoli a great choice is the fact that they are not the standard Chicago deep dish option. Ciao Napoli serves gourmet Neapolitan pizza with traditional Italian ingredients like grana padano, prosciutto, arugula, bufala mozzarella and kalamata olives. The atmosphere is also a step up from normal pizza places, making it a great destination for a date or night out with friends. |

4. PiecePiece is a great option for thin crust in Chicago, featuring plenty of creative sauce and topping choices. Even better, they are also an award-winning microbrewery. The crowds love this place, so on Sundays take it to-go and get any large pizza pie and a growler of beer for a decent price. |

5. Edwardo’s Natural PizzaEdwardo’s might not have the name recognition as Lou Malnati’s or Giordano’s, but the pizza is in the same class. Their Chicago stuff crust and thin crust pizza’s are great, as are the rest of the items on the menu. Be sure to try their Spinach Stuffed Pizza… you won’t regret it. |
Honorable Mention:Nonno’s, Taylor Made, Bacino’s, Tomato Head, Ceppetto’s, Al’s, Connies, Bertolli’s, Gino’s East, Pizzeria Due, Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder |

My fav on this list is definitely Lou’s. I know Giordano’s get’s more notice… but Lou’s is better IMHO… also, the chocolate chip / ice cream pizza is amazing. Yum.
IANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember my first deep dish pizza in the late 60′s or early 70′s when I was in high school. My favorite became Bacino’s in Lincoln Park (still there). About the same time Giordano’s started making deep dish and I would switch evenly between them. Today, with a Giordano’s close by in Oak Park, that has become our most often ordered pizza.
Malnati’s would be my pick too, but I don’t understand why Edwardo’s beats Gino’s East. Actually, I’m not sure why Giordano’s beats Gino’s either.
Even though I’m not a Chicago native, I had both Gino’s and Giordano’s on straight days. I have to agree with Derek here…Gino’s East sure tasted better than Giordano’s!
I guess I’ll have to come back and finish up the list, though!
