Is Matt’s Coat Ugly or Awesome? (Vote)

This coat has been a polarizing topic of conversation among both friends and coworkers since I have owned it. Some love it and some hate it, but there are very few who don’t have strong opinions. We have decided to put it to a vote in hopes of settling the issue once and for all: is this coat ugly or awesome?
The Facts
Before you write your comment, here are a few facts for you to consider:
- I purchased the coat 8-9 years ago for a “Retro” skating party in high school
- The coat was purchased for $1 at a thrift store
- Origin and original production date of the coat is unknown. My best guess is early 80′s.
- The coat perfectly fits that awkward 45° weather where it’s too cold for a sweater, but too warm for a winter coat.
- The brand of the coat is “Alpine Ski.”
- People on the street sometimes stop me to tell me how much they like the coat. Seriously. Though most of these people are hipsters.

Any vote against the coat is a vote against value.
Burn it! That coat makes me want to kill kittens dead.
I vote against the coat (and value). No need to reinforce your stereotype Matt, you will always remain the resident hipster.
I used to think it was ugly. However, I may have changed my mind. It is so incredibly cool that I think everyone will feel inferior around you, so you should burn it–for our sake. Do the right thing.
Being a Fashion Icon makes me feel nervous.
Every Dutch individual in the world is amazed that you could get such a great coat for such a small price.
Don’t ever
ever
get rid of it.
This coat makes me want to resurrect kittens!
@KELLY… even the evil ones???
I have to say, I like thrift store finds. And a coat’s a coat…keep it! By the way, there used to be a store where I grew up called Alpine Ski…hmmmmmmmm….
Matt…that coat is AWESOME! I know this because I am the father of a bonafide 15 year old hipster and he would totally dig that coat. Plus…I think I might have actually worn something similar in the early 80′s when it would have been…um…fashionable. You keep rockin’ that amazing piece of couture history.
awesome.
its just cool. especially if you wear it and own it, which you do. and believe me, i love judging fashion… i fight this inclination on a daily basis but since you’re asking, i’ll oblige.
loveit
That coat is awesome except for everything. If the coat is voted lame you should have to eat one of the sleeves.
though it definitely has the vintage sporty look, it may not be work appropriate– let your co-workers know you are hip with a $100 haircut instead, or perhaps constant references to obscure artists.
Matt is way to youthful & darling for that wretched old geezer rag…what’s next socks & sandals…suspenders??? Ditch it and I will take up a collection for a new one – I will contribute 5 bucks for a more modern look.
US Weekly wants to know, who wore it best – Matt Ritsman, or the hipster playing his djembe outside of 7-11 that asks you to buy him a churro?
I love the coat. I also think it’s cool that Matt doesn’t mind wearing a woman’s coat around town.
I think matching Moon Boots are required to pull this off little number.
I won’t argue with how valuable “value” is to the Dutch, and I think Matt’s disheveled-ly boyish likeness makes it all come together.
I think this coat needs an heir. Who gets it when Matt retires?
You have to be unique, and different, and shine in your own way
I agree with Emma Watson.
PS. Your “Yes” and “No” is so polarizing. Is there an option of “I wouldn’t mind you wearing it on a road trip, but not with me in a coffee shop”
This coat looks more like a sleeping bag. And that is why I love it.
I don’t know who you are, but the white/cream piping around the nipple latitude saves this coat from being lame.
It would have been cooler if it was a satin Member’s Only jacket you could have worn at Oak Lawn Roller Rink.
Oh wait, that died in the 80s—like that jacket should have done.
Dude, hipster look is out.
